Genting Highland Review

During the recent school holiday, we went to Genting Highland for our annual getaway as it the perhaps the cheapest 'Integrated Resort' or theme park resort in this region and the children love it. It only cost S$100 per person which includes return transport by coaches and 3 nights accommodation at the First World Hotel. Genting Highland Review

First World Hotel Review :
First World Hotel is one of the relatively new hotels, rooms are smaller, no frill (no fridge, no bath tub, no safe) but cleaner. Compared to our stay at the Theme Park Hotel last year, it was a much more pleasant hotel.
The down side of staying in the First World Hotel is, the crowd. We had to wait for 3 hours to check in the hotel rooms even on a weekday. You can try checking out other hotels which from time to time offer special promotions.

Food :
Things in Genting have gotten more expensive, expect to pay RM$10-15 per person for a noodle dish like Wanton Noodles. RM$25-30 for a more decent meal like Rice and dishes plus a drink. The place where we find the food is mediocre and pricy is the open food court near the children bumper car.

The best value for money eatery is perhaps the 24 hour coffee shop opposite the outdoor themepark. It's a place frequented by the taxi drivers and the locals, not many tourists know about  yet. Here you can get a fried noodles dish for RM$6.

Want a free Drink? Pop over to any of the Casino's cafetaria and help yourself to a few coffee, tea, Milo or cold drink.

The best meal we had was at the Restaurant over at Genting Hotel. For RM$40, you can have all eat all your want International Buffet dinner. Kids under 5 is free and above 5 is RM$20

Shopping & Other Entertainment
Shop around in the mall and you can sometimes find good value for money items. We bought some shoes and jackets for a fraction of Singapore prices.
You can also catch a show at the cinema or watch a live performances at the Pravilion.

Fun Rides and Theme Park

In term of the fun rides and theme park, we have found the theme park poorly maintained. Many of the rides are out of order or closed. The 4D show was a gross disappointment with blur images.

Genting Highland perhaps will be the nearest resort and cheapest resort that we would continue to visit each year with the kids as we love the cold climate.
