There is no real need for car rental in Singapore if you are a tourist visiting here only for a few days. The public transport system here is excellent and Singapore being very small , it is a short distance from anywhere to everyway travelling by taxis. The taxi fares here are relatively cheap, you should be able to get to most places with a fare between $10 - $18 per trip.

Another disadvantage of car rental in Singapore for tourists is, the cost of driving and parking are expensive.

Whenever you need to drive into the Central Business District, you will have to buy a stored value Cashcard to cover the electronic tolls that are automatically levied. There are rarely any free parking in Singapore, so you will need to purchase parking coupons (available from ptrol kiosks or post office) for hourly parking at some public car parks. Parking at shopping malls can be very expensive too.

In fact, the only real reason for renting a car in Singapore is to travel up into Malaysia, and even then it's cheaper to rent from a company based over the causeway in Johor Bahru. (See below for car rental in Malaysia)
