Food is many Singaporean's passion. YOu would hear of people traveling from one end of Singapore to another end in search of good food . For those of you who are new to Singaporean food, here are some 'must try' Singaporean signature dishes to help make your visit to Singapore complete.
Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab

For seafood lovers, Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab are definitely worth going for. Whole crab cooked in either hot bean paste and tomotoes sause or black-pepper seasoning, you can get them at most seafood restaurants. Chilli crab is best taken with 'hot buns' where you use the bun to soak up the gravy and eat them like that...hmmm, it's heavenly. (I think the bun itself deserves an award :)) Order the Sri Lankan crab if you don't mind paying a bit more, they are alot meatier and the meat is very succulent.
Where to eat : Head to the seafood restaurants at East Coast Park, check out the 'awards winning dishes' displayed at the various restaurants, if you see Chilli crab or black pepper crab, you can't be too wrong in choosing that restaurant.
BBQ Stingray - An all time favourite Singapore food popular with our overseas friends. Stingray pan fried and served on banana left with smear of sambal chilli paste on top, goes very well with the soury lime dip that comes with it. Don't forget to order lime juice along to 'cool' the taste buds
Fish Head Curry Giant fish head cooked in spicy curry sauce, best enjoyed with steamed rice. Again, many places serve this dish, you may wish to try it at Banana Leaf Apolo which is suppose to be one of the better ones. Address : 54-58 Race Course Road, Little India Tel : 6293 8682

Bak Kut Teh Pork ribs cooked in garlic and herbal broth. Best served with steamed rice and fresh chilli in dark soy sauce.
Fried Carrot Cake No, this is not the sweet version served as dessert. The carrot here refers to 'radish', so it would be more accurate to call it fried radish cake :) This Singapore food is made of steamed cakes of rice flour, diced and stir-fried with shredded radish and minced radish with eggs and sometimes even prawns. Try it 'dark' (flavoured with sweet dark sauce) or 'white', without any sauce. Ask for chilli paste to be added if you fancy chilli (that's how most Singaporeans eat it)
Fried Kway Teow or Char Kway Teow 'Char' means fried, and 'Kway Teow' means broad noodles. It's cooked with chinese sausages, shallots, eggs, bean sprouts, fish cake, prawns, squid or cockles. A delicious meal which can be a little oily for the weight conscious. However, you shouldn't diet when you are traveling right? Not in Singapore at least :)
